Every Friday · From 7 PM · Bole
Salsa Night — Every Friday at Velvet
The floor opens at 7 PM, signature mojitos start hitting the bar, and the rooftop fills with a mix of regulars and first-timers. Beginners are welcome — most of the room was once one.
What it is
Every Friday at Velvet, the dining hall becomes a salsa floor. Doors at 7 PM. Music runs salsa, bachata, and a little reggaeton when the room asks for it. There's no cover. There's no dress code beyond "you can move in it." If you want to dance, you'll dance; if you want to sit at the bar and watch, that's also a popular choice.
The vibe
The music sits in the Latin pocket without leaving the room — DJs read the floor and shift between classic salsa, urban Latin, and bachata depending on who's out there. The bar runs signature mojitos through the night; if you don't know what to order, that's what to order.
The dance level is mixed. There are dancers who've been on every floor in Addis, and there are people taking their first steps. Both are welcome. The lead-and-follow culture is friendly and asking someone to dance is normal.
What to expect
7 PM — doors. The floor is open. Earlier arrivals usually grab a seat in the dining hall and stay for dinner before moving across to dance.
8:30 PM – 11 PM — peak. The floor fills, the tempo climbs, and the rooftop terrace becomes the breathing room between songs.
Dinner before is common. The kitchen is open alongside the dance floor — you can eat, dance, and come back to your table. Reserve if you want a guaranteed seat at peak.
Who it's for
Locals, expats, regulars from the Addis salsa community, and the friend-group that's been promising to learn for two years and finally booked the night. It's also a great date — the floor gives you something to do, and the bar gives you somewhere to land.
Reservations
The floor is free to join. To guarantee a table — especially if you're bringing a group or planning dinner before — call +251 11 663 5920.
